I like Minecraft and Call of Duty. I achieved green belt in Karate. I received an Honorary Black Belt. I play the drums. I'm the oldest kid in my family of six. And oh yeah, I have Chiari Malformation; my brain is not fitting where it should.
Hello
I'm Kyle. I was born with Klippel Feil syndrome and diagnosed with Chiari Malformation in Sept. 2011. I had my first decompression surgery in Nov. 2011. This blog is about me living with both, and my surgeries.

My name is Dr. Laura Criddle, and I run an organization (www.tcarprograms.org) dedicated to training nurses who take care of trauma patients. We’ve taught a 2-day course for RNs at over 400 hospitals across the U.S. As you can imagine, nurses love to see pictures of REAL patients, rather than staged photos, but it’s very difficult to locate such images, particularly photos of children. Searching the web, I ran across your December 2011 blog and read about your ordeal. There’s a wonderful picture of you in your halo, in traction. It sounds like you've made a great recovery. I would humbly request permission to use this photo in our training courses. Most nurses never get an opportunity to see a child in a halo before they are suddenly in a position to provide patient care. We always say "Photo courtesy of . . ." and give you credit for sharing your image.

Chiari malformation is a life-threatening defect in which the lower part of the brain (cerebellum) is squeezed into the space of the upper part of the spinal cord.
MRI is the only way to find out if you have Chiari.
What is Klippel Feil?
Klippel Feil is a congenital condition, where part of the cervical spine is fused. Also associated with other serious problems such as absent or abnormal kidneys, and spinal cord abnormalities.
What is a Zipperhead?
Anyone who has had decompression surgery for Chiari Malformation. I'm guessing the term 'zipperhead' is because of the long scar down the back of the head and neck.
